If your home needs expanding but plot-size limitations mean that extending into your garden space is not a feasible option, then converting your loft to create additional living space without compromising your garden area is a popular option.
Designing a loft can be more complex than designing a conventional extension, as the new space needs to be planned out in three dimensions and not just two (due to the sloped ceilings). We’ve seen many properties over the years with poorly thought out loft conversions that have insufficient head-heights or lack of planned out space for tall storage (for bedroom wardrobes etc).

Some lofts are more suitable for converting than others (in fact some cannot practically be converted – especially if the existing loft space is under 2.3m high), however a typical loft conversion usually comes in at approx. £30,000 – 40,000. This may sound like a lot, but when you consider that most loft conversions will result in the addition of an extra bedroom to your home (if not more, with the possibility of en-suites, additional bedrooms etc), the increase in your property value once the works are completed would usually far exceed the cost of the works.
